MENTAL Wellness

Mental wellness is more than just the absence of a mental health condition. It's how we feel about ourselves and how we cope in the world. Characteristics of good mental health are:

  • Coping with everyday life stresses

  • Learning and working productively

  • Acknowledging own potential

  • Forming and maintaining good relationships

  • Feel, express, and manage a range of emotions

  • Coping with change and uncertainty

  • Feeling connected to a community or having a sense of belonging.

  • Being active and caring for physical health.

People who maintain a good level of mental health are likely to feel content, confident, and generally satisfied with life. They are less likely to develop physical illnesses or serious mental health conditions.

WHEN we need support

We will all face challenges in our lives and it's normal to experience stress, anxiety and difficult emotions at times. However, there are some key signs that suggest our mental health is suffering:

ABOUT THERAPY

Therapy provides relief to emotional problems, distressing thoughts, concerns or behaviors that affect the quality of life. Talking through your situation in therapy will help you to find effective ways to cope, heal and find contentment.

COUNSELLING

Counselling is typically a short-term, talk-based therapy where personal challenges are shared confidentially with a supportive professional. Therapists are trained to listen and respond in ways that bring comfort and alleviate suffering. The therapeutic process offers new perspectives and inspires change.

Therapists assist individuals to identify their difficulties and find their own solutions. The process tends to focus on the present rather than the past, identifying actions that can be made now to improve wellbeing.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychotherapy is also talk based although it uses some additional techniques. This therapy facilitates a deeper exploration of emotions, thoughts and behaviours.
Psychotherapy offers insight and meaning to experiences, relationships and internal conflicts. It encourages reflection, self-discovery and personal growth. Psychotherapy can be useful for those seeking to achieve a deeper understanding of themselves and how they relate to others.

You are welcome to experience therapy at a convenient yet discreet office location in central New Ross. This comfortable and confidential space provides the ideal environment to support you in your therapeutic journey.


Each session lasts for 60 minutes.

ONLINE

Online appointments offer a convenient and flexible way to access therapy. Online sessions can be as effective as therapy conducted face to face for most issues and situations. Please contact me to arrange a free telephone consultation for more information.


Online appointments last for 60 minutes.

Therapy is available to young persons aged 13 upwards. Adolescent therapy requires consent and ongoing support from parenting adults. This service is only available at the office.


Adolescent appointments last 50 minutes.

At James Lyster Counselling & Psychotherapy, I offer professional and ethical psychotherapy services to both adults and adolescents. I am a member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) so you can be assured that my practice follows the highest standards of care.

My approach to psychotherapy is tailored to each individual and is based on the core values of respect, compassion, acceptance and understanding. I believe that providing a non-judgemental and safe environment is critical for individuals to feel comfortable and supported while they explore their personal situations.
